Karen Dana Cohen (b. 1982, Mexico City) is an artist, educator, and independent curator based in Chicago, IL. She studied at ENPEG "La Esmeralda" in Centro Nacional de las Artes, Mexico City, and holds an MFA from Hunter College in New York City. Cohen has exhibited nationally and internationally.
Through drawing, painting, and sculpture configurations, she explores how we inhabit our bodies in foreign contexts, interrogating social structures of belonging, translation, and power dynamics. Examining the tension between inclusion and exclusion while reclaiming notions of home and place.
She teaches Professional Practices as well as Contemporary Drawing and Painting studio courses. In addition to her teaching practice, Dana Cohen works as a curator and organizer, serving as an active member of Tiger Strikes Asteroid Chicago, where she coordinates the Studio Summer artist residency. For the last five years, she has been a leading mentor in a critique group for artists who are also caregivers. Karen also works as a career advisor and maintains an independent consulting practice supporting artists in building sustainable creative practices and navigating their unique career paths.
